A Wild Night Provides Awesome
Racing at AMS
Angola Motor Speedway
May
24, 2008
(Fremont, Indiana)
Saturday night was Curves giveaway night at the
Angola Motor Speedway, as the lady fans were awarded with some
great prizes from Curves. The SuperPro Late Model Series also
made their first of two appearances in 2008 with the Engineered
Systems 50 lap main event.
The night started off with two make-up features from
May 17th and the Smith Enterprises Mini Stocks were
up first. Defending champion Jerry Sloan started in the back
but quickly sliced his way toward the front. He had to battle
with frontrunners Cliff Bennett and rookie Logan Parker, but
Sloan made the pass and held on for his second straight feature
win. Bennett took home a second place finish, with Parker
third, Justin DuBois fourth, and Taylor Oberlin fifth.
The Jonny on the Spot Street Stocks took to the track next for
their May 17th make-up feature. Doug Crager grabbed
the early lead as the action heated up behind him. A lap 9
crash took fast qualifier Tommy Little and Brandon Pulver flying
off the back stretch but both drivers were able to return to the
race. After going back green Zach Henderson closed in on Crager
and made the pass for the lead. Henderson had to hold off a
charging Robby Henderson late as he held on for his first win of
the season. R. Henderson, Crager, Pulver, and Bob Thompson all
took home top five finishes.
Super Pro Series drivers hit the track next for the Engineered
Systems 50 lap feature race. All 50 laps were run under green
as no caution flag laps were counted. Local favorite Rick
Everidge started up front and led the first 20 laps through
eight cautions. Fast qualifier Jack Landis and Tommy Cook made
contact battling for second spot sending Cook to the tail and
put Landis right behind Everidge. Landis took over the lead on
the restart and led the final 30 laps for the win. Jason
Dietsch followed Landis through traffic and took home a second
place finish, Mike Kugler was third, Tommy Cook fourth, and Rick
Everidge fifth.
Tom Williams started on the pole in the Superior Auto Modifieds
and was fast early until a broken rear-end took him out of the
race. Tom Wiedman took over the top spot and kept it there for
most of the race, but defending champion Steve Minich Jr. ran
him down and made the winning pass with just 4 laps to go.
Minich pulled in to Tri State Line-X for the first time in ’08
as Wiedman, Gilbert Little, Erik Shaeffer, and Darwin Wolfe all
finished in the top 5. Minich and Gilbert Little took home heat
wins.
Jerry Sloan made it three in a row in the Smith Enterprises Mini
Stocks with Jimmy Musser, Justin DuBois, Logan Parker, and
Howard Fisette Jr taking home top five finishes. Justin Dubois
and Taylor Oberlin were heat winners.
The
Jonny on the Spot Street Stocks had the final event of the
night. After crashing in the first feature of the night Tommy
Little got to the front early and held off a charging Zach
Henderson to get a feature win. Robby Henderson was third, Doug
Crager fourth, and Justin Oberlin fifth. Crager and Jerry
Carpenter were the heat winners. Next Saturday night is
WAWK AM1140 “The Hawk” Night at the races. The Auto Value
Michigan Legend Series will also be at AMS along with the
Budweiser Super Late Models, Superior Auto Modifieds, Jonny on
the Spot Street Stocks, and Smith Enterprises Mini Stocks.
Practice at 4:30 , Time Trials at 6:00 , and racing at 7:30 .
